Anti-depressants do seem to help some individuals cope better with their daily existence, but I agree they can be potentially harmful and are shamefully abused.

I'm with you! I like to think of those type drugs as Novacaine for the brain. The bad thoughts are still there, they are just masked until you come down of your cloud. Many years ago, a counselor told my husband to take Prozac for "his depression" (PTSD from Viet Nam). Right after that I saw a program or news item , I can't remember which because that was way back in 1988 or 89, Anyway, they had discovered that Prozac made you have homicidal tendencies. Well...Duh! After going through Viet Nam and everything else he had been through, I wasn't going to take a chance and talked him out of taking them. Now, it's that way with just about all drugs, even regular medical drugs. They may be good for ONE thing, but end up causing liver problems, stomach problems, eye problems, (that one I've never understood) other than the pharmaceutical properties, what does a pill you take for weight-loss have to do with your eyes? Anyway, I didn't mean to write a book, I just love commenting because you come up with some very relevant subjects.

Thank YOU!

God Bless,

Psychotropic drugs just gave me some 2nd thoughts. I googled their definition.
They usually cause euphoria like well being.
Actually, they are used most often to work on the nervous system or for the elderly who had some operation.
Hence, I perceive them rather as happy pills, as called by some. Correct me if this is not the case... When alcohol is taken at the same time, such mood enhancing medication has a disastrous effect.

Anyway, drugs that work on the psyche, such as in mild or severe cases of shizophreny (SP?) are a totally different story. When they are not taken, chaos starts. Persons, who suffer from this disease of the mind become totally unpredictable, from what I have seen and heard. Not all become violent. However, other factors might play a role, which then makes them extremely aggressive at a later stage.

Funny you mentioned insulin...if you ever run out of topics, that therapy's something you might want to research. But you're right about the drugs. It's insane that some mood/mind altering drugs are illegal and some are prescribed.
