There’s No Need To Buy: (part 5)

cold/flu medicines & antibiotics!

many common ailments can be treated naturally without the use of drugs. drugs weaken the system overall when used unnecessarily.

for example, the over-use of antibiotics causes a weak immune system. a fever is your body’s effort to kill off bad bacteria. a runny nose is the body’s effort to flush something out. moreover, the body has bad bacteria and good bacteria. antibiotics kill all bacteria. that’s why the doctor recommends eating yogurt while on an antibiotic (yogurt contains good bacteria). that’s also why many women get yeast infections after taking an antibiotic. all the good bacteria is dead and the balance goes off.

although antibiotics can save lives and are extremely valuable in dire situations, they are not always necessary. if you are only moderately ill it is actually wiser to let the illness run it’s course.

here are a few things you can do to assist the body in healing itself:

1) take garlic for a cold/flu. garlic boosts immunity and helps the body fight infection.

2) eat lemon for a cold/flu. with the first signs of illness i start eating as many lemons as i can get down! all that vitamin c will usually knock it right out.

3) cut out all white sugar. no cookies, no ice cream, no soda, no juice. nothing but water to drink.

4) drink as much water as possible. i try to get down a gallon in a day if i’m feeling ill.

5) take niacin for a cold/flu. niacin is a b vitamin which causes a hot flush. the flush helps to kill off bad bacteria just like a fever. (don’t take too much!)

6) take a steam shower or sauna. again, heat is working to kill off infection.

7) take acidophilus and colloidal silver. available at most health food stores, these supplements boost immunity and promote healthy bacteria.

8) cayenne pepper for a sore throat. i gargle a little bit in water. cayenne is also works to clean the blood. i take it in pill form daily.

9) hydrogen peroxide for a sore throat. if the cayenne is too spicy try this as a gargle.

10) change your lifestyle for better immunity. if you are prone to colds and flus try- cutting down on white sugar, eating more raw fruits and veggies, cutting down on dairy, cutting out all artificial sweeteners completely, drinking more water, cutting out all fast food, taking garlic daily, taking cayenne daily, exercising daily to a healthy sweat.

Well I might not be sick, but I need a little sugar in my life :). The diet sounds tough to do without something sweet.

You have put together some excellent tips for helping against illness.

I always thought a lot of remedies were wife tales so never paid much thought to them.

However i must agree that the drugs you get from the chemist are expensive and rarely do any good.

    It’s almost absolutely right.
Though I’m not sure about the white sugar. I don’t think it’s so necessary to cut the intake when you are ill. There is nothing bad in white sugar itself it’s just that we often use it too much every day. When you are ill and don’t have appetite it’s maybe even good to take some. in moderation of course. It’s pure energy – glucose. And juices also wont do any harm, there are vitamins in them.
I would also put greater emphasis on vitamin c. It’s really crucial when you have cold. However some people, like me for example don’t really like to eat lemons because they are very sour. I can get a lemon down only together with huge amounts of white sugar :) Synthetic vitamin c will also work as any other citrus fruits.
Cranberries are especially good as they help to reduce the fever.

Actually white sugar is too refined and processed to be useful to the body especially when you’re sick. Alternatives would be stevia, raw honey, raw agave or pure maple syrup.

On and off there seems to be a new harmful food in the media. White sugar has been one for a long time.
There is no pure food which is really harmful, unless too much is consumed. The question would be to know how much is too much.
Anyway, I know that my mother and grand parents were growing up with white sugar. They certainly never had too much of it and reached old age.
All the fast food, snack and party food is much more harmful in my mind.
