Holy Shit…

Posted: February 19th, 2010 | Author: youareb1 | Filed under: Organics vs. GMOs | 7 Comments »

the pharmaceutical and food industries are joining forces with the introduction of pharmaceutical plants. yes that’s right, genetically modified plants which actually produce pharmaceutical drugs. it may seem unbelievable- but there are also goats which have been laced with spider genes to produce the proteins which make spider silk the strongest fiber known to man.

believe it or not there are hundreds of test plots in North America for these pharmaceutical plants. it may be cheaper to grow drugs than produce them in a lab. the primary plants used are corn and sunflower and the drugs they make include:

vaccines

industrial enzymes

blood thinners

blood clotting proteins

growth hormones

and contraceptives.

imagine what would happen if cross-pollination caused the unintentional contamination of our food supply. imagine eating contraceptive-producing corn unwittingly. and how can this even be prevented with fields of pharmaceutical plants out there? even the most powerful corporation can’t stop the wind! some may argue that with self-pollinating crops contamination is less of a threat, but if i’m eating a vegetable i don’t want there to be any slightest possibility that it’s also a drug….. or a piece of plastic.

yep, corn is also being made to produce plastic. wonderful.

Monsanto

Posted: February 13th, 2010 | Author: youareb1 | Filed under: Organics vs. GMOs | 14 Comments »

if you have not heard of Monsanto, you’ve got some research to do. in a nutshell Monsanto is pure evil on earth. no joke. it is almost unfathomable that a company could be so sickening. ever see the movie Erin Brockovich? Monsanto is like the villain in that movie- times 100.

although they claim to be an agricultural company they are actually a chemical company and have contributed to us such gems as Aspartame and Bovine Growth Hormone (see below). They are also responsible for Araclor, a now-banned electrical coolant/lubricant. unfortunately, before it was taken off the market, they managed to contaminate the water supply of unsuspecting communities- thereby ruining the health thousands.

their most famous product is Roundup, the world’s best selling herbicide. Roundup is considered a “total” herbicide because it kills all plants. you may find old Monsanto commercials promoting Roundup as biodegradable. their marketing campaigns have changed. this is because Monsanto was found guilty of false advertising. twice. in fact, Roundup is quite toxic.

today Monsanto is the worlds leader in biotechnology. 90% of the GMO’s grown on the planet belong to them.

Monsanto has genetically modified crops to withstand Roundup. they call them “Roundup-Ready”. this means you can spray a dangerous chemical all over your crop and it won’t die. where farmers used to have to spray weeds individually, they can now spray their entire field. sounds like excess spraying to me.

although there is overwhelming evidence that GMO’s are dangerous to human health, and beyond the fact that Roundup-Ready crops obviously promote pollution, there is actually a greater evil at work within the ranks of Monsanto.

the fact is- Monsanto has managed to patent crops. the consequences of this are tragic.

farmers planting Monsanto’s patented crops are not allowed to save seed, but must purchase new seed from Monsanto each year. let’s say Monsanto is suspicious that a farmer did, in fact, save seed. all that is needed is a bottle of Roundup to prove it. if sprayed crops don’t die, the farmer is guilty of patent infringement.

now what if the wind blows Monsanto seed into a farmers field? surely he cannot be found guilty of patent infringement. wrong! it does not matter how it gets into your field, if it’s there you are in trouble. when you take into account the fact of cross-pollination you can see the threat Monsanto is to small farmers. soon, with the help of the wind, Monsanto will have a monopoly on American agriculture.

and that isn’t even the half of it! Monsanto is now patenting livestock. when a genetically-modified animal breeds with a normal animal their offspring can carry Monsanto’s gene. if so, Monsanto owns it.

with millions of dollars allocated to lobbying and lawsuits each year Monsanto can appear unbeatable. but there is something you can do to help. if you stop consuming conventional sugar, canola, soy, and corn products you will not only improve your health but also take some major business from Monsanto and GMO’s. if these are the only organic products you buy you will still be making an impact.

i hope you do.

Bovine Growth Hormone or Bovine Somatotropin. haven’t heard of it? oh yes you have! every dairy product at Trader Joe’s displays that little line “from cows not treated with rBST”. only recently has a red flag gone up over this drug which increases milk production in cows. turns out it’s dangerous to human health. i guess the drug’s maker Monsanto has the FDA in it’s pocket too.

wanna go on a diet? watch this documentary.
