we, as a society, have been brainwashed to believe that we need industry in order to live a full life. we have handed over all responsibility to a far off company. we no longer know, nor do we care, how our everyday products are produced. if we did, we would need to buy far less.
we are so starved of such basic knowledge that we are quite at the mercy of themarket. and if this trend continues, we will have no other choice but to consume that which is made available, no matter the quality.
somewhere amidst the colorful billboards, air-brushed commercials, clever slogans and glamorous magazine ads, we have forgotten that companies are for profit and that quality is often sacrificed for such.
it is no mistake that the food made popular by advertising encourages unhealthy conditions which lead to the sale of drugs.
it is no mistake that drugs made popular by advertising are meant not to heal, but to “maintain” conditions by constant use. and it is not by accident that these are very addictive.
personally, i do not own a television. to me it is quite a scary thought that millions of people over the country are watching the same images at the same time. i, for one, do not want to have the same experience as everyone else. i find that watching t.v. stifles my motivation and creativity as well as my individual thought. where a great movie will inspire and encourage action, t.v. only sedates.
imagine all the extra time you will have on your hands when you stop watching t.v.! just enough time to learn how to make things yourself. just enough time to stop being a slave to the market.
you don’t need to spend hundreds of dollars on shampoos, conditioners, gels, hair sprays, etc. in order to have great hair!
the overuse of product leads to dry, frizzy, hair which leads to the use ofmore product.
the first step is to stop shampooing everyday. the second step is to stop shampooing with harsh detergents. conventional shampoos contain industrial solvents because they are cheap. quality organic shampoos are great but too expensive.
here are some great recipes to make your own hair products at home, hair products which are free from harsh chemicals.
homemade shampoo- combine 1/4 cup liquid castile soap, 1/4 cup aloe vera gel, 1 teaspoon glycerin and 1/4 teaspoon light vegetable oil. mix well. apply liberally to wet hair.
quick shampoo- mix baking soda and water into a thick paste. apply to roots and scrub. rinse well. works wonderfully.
dry shampoo- between washes excess oil can be tamed with cornstarch or baby powder. apply to roots. a great quick fix.
shiny hair rinse- after shampooing rinse hair apple cider or white vinegar and cool water. the smell won’t stick, don’t worry.
conditioner- mix 5 drops rosemary oil with 1 teaspoon almond or olive oil. work oils through dampened hair. rinse with cool water.
deep conditioner- comb 1/2 a cup of real mayonnaise into damp hair. let sit for 20-30 minutes and rinse with cool water.
conditioning tonic- beat 2 egg yolks until frothy. add 2 teaspoons of gin and beat until foamy. massage into hair and rinse with warm water.
hair spray- boil one halved lemon in 2 cups of water. reduce to one cup. strain and place in a spray bottle. add one ounce of rubbing alcohol to preserve, otherwise store in the refrigerator. salt water also works as a hair texturizer.
dandruff solution- white vinegar is a great dandruff treatment. mix 2 teaspoons vinegar with 6 teaspoons water and apply to scalp. mixture can be left on overnight. you can also try 1 part lemon juice to 2 parts vinegar as a scalp treatment.
the de-frizzing miracle- before bed wrap damp hair in a silk scarf and leave on overnight. you will wake to beautiful silky smooth locks.
i knew it was too good to be true! as a lifelong health freak/nature lover i was the perfect target for global warming propaganda. but i always had a feeling, deep down in the pit of my stomach, that the guy behind the podium couldn’t be telling the whole truth…. i guess my instinct was correct.
all the “concern” you see everyday for global warming and the environment, is just another money motivated fraud.
this fraud was exposed in November of last year when thousands of internal e-mails from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the worlds leading authority on global warming, were leaked exposing blatant manipulation of climate data. the scandal has been dubbed “Climategate” by the media.
then there’s the Oregon Petition, a document which has been signed by over 31,000 scientists who agree that there is noconvincing evidence that human c02 emissions are causing global warming.
on top of that, we have the 9 lies in Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and consequently the Academy members who want to take back his Oscar and the petitions to get his Nobel Peace Prize revoked.
so what’s the deal? what’s in it for Al? how do the high priests think they’ll profit from “global warming”?
the answer is: carbon credits. the plan, in a nutshell, is to get laws passed which limit the amount of carbon emissions a single person or company is allowed to create. i imagine this will effect the miles you are allowed travel, the appliances you are allowed to own, etc. butdon’t worry- because if you run out you can always buy more on the “carbon exchange”.
of everything i’ve heard about global warming, nothing gets me more than the poor, drowning polar bears! is there anything worse than the suffering of helpless animals?
well, maybe being lied to about the suffering of helpless animals is worse.
According to the Wall Street Journal: “Nearly everyone agrees that there are more polar bears now than when scientists first started counting: Estimates put the population between 20,000 and 25,000, up from several thousand 50 years ago. In Canada, where two-thirds of the world’s bears live, most populations have grown during the past two or three decades. Arctic residents say they are now bumping into bears wherever they turn.’A month ago I was down by my [hunting] camp and I saw five polar bears,’ says Harry Flaherty, chairman of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board, who lives in Iqaluit. ‘They were so fat, they could barely move.’”
moreover, in a court case filed by a parent who wanted the film “An Inconvenient Truth” taken off school curriculum, British High Court Justice Michael Burton cited 9 inaccuracies in the film. one of which was the poor drowningpolar bears.
the judge said: “The only scientific study that either side before me can find is one which indicates that four polar bears have recently been found drowned because of a storm.”
The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, furthermore, found that the current bear population is 20,000-25,000, up from 5,000-10,000 in the 1950s and 1960s.
the other 8 lies in “An Inconvenient Truth” are equally interesting. take a minute to google “Al Gore 9 lies”. and ask yourself, what could Al Gore and others gain from public belief that an apocalypse is on it’s way?
i used to make long lists of all the things i wanted to buy. i thought i’d be perfect- if only i could get my hands on a bunch of expensive merchandise. and if it wasn’t expensive- i didn’t want it. needless to say, i have changed. unfortunately, this is a real confusion for many women. i think it’s the product of too much t.v., who knows.
it comes down to one question: to consume or to create? concentrate on the latter and you will be much more satisfied.
here are some tips on how to break the pattern (and save lots of money):
1) instead of spending $15 on a bottle of eye make-up remover- use a bit of olive oil on a cotton ball. you’ll be amazed.
2) temped to buy that $100 conditioning treatment at the salon? do it yourself with an egg yolk and olive oil mask.
3) while we’re at it, why go to the salon at all? lemon juice and sunshine are all you need for beautiful highlights. henna costs $5 and has given me the prettiest shade of red- one a chemical dye could never achieve. and of course there’s hydrogen peroxide. i mix equal parts water and hydrogen peroxide if i want to go a few shades lighter in the summer (use a spray bottle to apply). look we just saved $300.
4) make your own facial mask rather than buying one for $30. beat egg whites until they go thick and foamy. apply, let dry and rinse. plain yogurt is also a great mask.
5) have you ever paid $14.99 on a lip plumping gloss? yuck. try this instead: exfoliate your lips with a toothbrush, then apply lip balm and a touch of cayenne pepper from the spice drawer.
6) to soften feet, douse in olive oil or vaseline and quickly put on a pair of socks (this can be messy). leave on overnight. works better than your $40 pedicure.
7) apple cider vinegar is a good facial toner. one more thing you don’t need to buy.
8) need a new wardrobe? go to the supermarket and buy every color of RIT dye in stock. now the fun begins. tear through your old clothes. dye everything you don’t wear. be creative. when in doubt dye black. i do it on the stove top.
see how easily we can stick it to the man!? if any of you ladies out there have a tip of your own, please leave it in the comments!
the pharmaceutical and food industries are joining forces with the introduction of pharmaceutical plants. yes that’s right, genetically modified plants which actuallyproducepharmaceutical drugs. it may seem unbelievable- but there are also goats which have been laced with spider genes to produce the proteins which make spider silk thestrongest fiber known to man.
believe it or not there are hundreds of test plots in North America for these pharmaceutical plants. it may becheaper to grow drugs than produce them in a lab. the primary plants used are corn and sunflower and the drugs they make include:
vaccines
industrial enzymes
blood thinners
blood clotting proteins
growth hormones
and contraceptives.
imagine what would happen if cross-pollination caused the unintentional contamination of our food supply. imagine eating contraceptive-producing corn unwittingly. and how can this even be prevented with fields of pharmaceutical plants out there? even the most powerfulcorporation can’t stop the wind! some may argue that with self-pollinating crops contamination is less of a threat, but if i’m eating a vegetable i don’t want there to be any slightest possibility that it’s also a drug….. or a piece of plastic.
yep, corn is also being made to produce plastic. wonderful.
if you have not heard of Monsanto, you’ve got some research to do. in a nutshell Monsanto is pure evil on earth. no joke. it is almost unfathomable that a company could be so sickening. ever see the movie Erin Brockovich? Monsanto is like the villain in that movie- times 100.
although they claim to be an agricultural company they are actually a chemicalcompany and have contributed to us such gems as Aspartame and Bovine Growth Hormone (see below). They are also responsible for Araclor, a now-banned electrical coolant/lubricant. unfortunately, before it was taken off the market, they managed to contaminate the water supply of unsuspecting communities- thereby ruining the health thousands.
their most famous product is Roundup, the world’s best selling herbicide. Roundup is considered a “total” herbicide because it kills allplants. you may find old Monsanto commercials promoting Roundup as biodegradable. their marketing campaigns have changed. this is because Monsanto was found guilty of falseadvertising. twice. in fact, Roundup is quite toxic.
today Monsanto is the worlds leader in biotechnology. 90% of the GMO’s grown on the planet belong to them.
Monsanto has genetically modified crops to withstand Roundup. they call them “Roundup-Ready”. this means you can spray a dangerous chemicalall overyour crop and it won’t die. where farmers used to have to spray weeds individually, they can now spray their entire field. sounds like excess spraying to me.
although there is overwhelming evidence that GMO’s are dangerous to human health, and beyond the fact that Roundup-Ready crops obviously promote pollution, there is actually a greater evil at work within the ranks of Monsanto.
the fact is- Monsanto has managed to patent crops. the consequences of this are tragic.
farmers planting Monsanto’s patented crops are not allowed to save seed, but must purchase new seed from Monsanto each year. let’s say Monsanto is suspicious that a farmer did, in fact, save seed. all that is needed is a bottle of Roundup to prove it. if sprayed crops don’t die, the farmer is guilty of patent infringement.
now what if the windblows Monsanto seed into a farmers field? surely he cannot be found guilty of patent infringement. wrong! it does not matter how it gets into your field, if it’s there you are in trouble. when you take into account the fact of cross-pollination you can see the threat Monsanto is to small farmers. soon, with the help of the wind, Monsanto will have a monopoly on American agriculture.
and that isn’t even the half of it! Monsanto is now patenting livestock. when a genetically-modified animal breeds with a normal animal their offspring can carry Monsanto’s gene. if so, Monsanto owns it.
with millions of dollars allocated to lobbying and lawsuits each year Monsanto can appear unbeatable. but there is something you can do to help. if you stop consuming conventional sugar, canola, soy, and corn products you will not only improve your health but also take some major business from Monsanto and GMO’s. if these are the only organic products you buy you will still be making an impact.
i probably save hundreds of dollars a year because i do not buy cleaning solutions. i make my own. first- they are expensive. second- they are not only toxic to the environment but also to your body! and lastly they are completely and utterly unnecessary. i hope, with all my heart, that someday my name is placed on a list of threats to the cleaning supply industry. today i will teach you how to make your own for a fraction of the cost you spend today on toxic, chemical, carcinogen crap!
almost everything you’ll ever need to clean can be cleaned with common household items. let’s go down your average cleaning day check-list:
first you’ll want to dust and wipe down all your surfaces. this can be done with a spray bottle of white vinegar and a damp rag. i like to add a little lavender oil to my spray for a natural scent. don’t worry- the vinegar smell will evaporate soon. white vinegar is a natural disinfectant and a good grease cutter. for extra disinfectant power trade your vinegar for a spray bottle of cheap vodka.
next windows. here white vinegar or vodka will work. wipe them down with some old newspaper for a lint free shine. don’t worry- your Windex fume withdrawals are almost over.
now let’s tackle those hardwood floors. if you need to wet mop i suggest good old Murphy’s oil soap. it’s non-toxic. for a quick clean i spray and wipe with, again, white vinegar. it will leave a nice shine.
got carpet? sprinkle baking soda all over. let sit. vacuum. if you’re extra ambitious scent your baking soda with some lavender oil.
what about your dark wood furniture? polish with some cheap olive oil.
oh no! but what about the bathroom? white vinegar or vodka will work for your surfaces, mirrors, even your toilet. but for nasty soap scum? sprinkle baking soda all over…. spray with white vinegar and listen to it fizzle! if you have a particularly gross situation you may want to jump in the tub with a simple detergent (i like Dr. Bronners) and do a little scrubbing. the combo of baking soda, vinegar and a simple soap equals a sparkling carcinogen-free bath tub.
yay!
p.s. any essential oil can be added to your concoctions for a yummy scent, rose oil, orange oil, etc. lemon juice is a great cleaner and disinfectant and can be added too.
Bovine Growth Hormone or Bovine Somatotropin. haven’t heard of it? ohyes you have! every dairy product at Trader Joe’s displays that little line “from cows not treated with rBST”. only recently has a red flag gone up over this drug which increases milk production in cows. turns out it’s dangerous to human health. i guess the drug’s maker Monsanto has the FDA in it’s pocket too.
